Wet the Tea

Wet The Tea are an imaginative three-piece folk outfit led by singer-songwriter Andy Connally, alongside Clare “Fluff” Smith and Adam Beresford-Browne. Between them, they bring a broad sweep of multi-instrumental skill, moving across flute and whistle, guitar and piano, bouzouki, fiddle and cello, mandolin, bodhrán and vocals. The result is a distinctive sound that sits comfortably between Irish and English folk, contemporary roots, bluegrass and Americana, always grounded in their own original songs and tunes.

At the centre is Andy Connally, a Liverpool-raised Irish folk musician whose writing is direct, heartfelt and shaped by real life, alongside musical grounding in Comhaltas and folklore traditions. He is joined by Clare “Fluff” Smith, an experienced fiddler and cellist with a long history in folk-rock, youth ensembles and international touring. Adam Beresford-Browne completes the trio on guitar and mandolin with harmony vocals, drawing on Donegal roots, years of festival sessions, and a strong love of teaching, storytelling and community.

Original material sits at the heart of what they do. Andy often introduces songs live, sharing where they came from and what they mean, so the audience is brought into the story from the first line. The writing is personal and imaginative, unafraid of vulnerability, and delivered with warmth and a natural sense of narrative.

On stage, Wet The Tea are engaging and highly musical, building sets that invite people in rather than sitting at a distance. Expect driving rhythm when the room needs lifting, close harmonies that hold the space, and moments where a fiddle line or flute melody carries everything. One minute it is bold and foot-tapping, the next it is intimate and delicate, but it always feels honest and connected.
